This substantial early 14th Century Grade II* listed manor house has good examples of mediaeval windows, oak studded doors, fireplaces and a very early oak staircase, all set in well landscaped gardens. We stripped the roof, repaired the mediaeval timbers and retiled with the original and other reclaimed stone tiles. We then renovated the East wing with new bathrooms and kitchen and redecorated of the remainder the house. Finally we refurbished the swimming pool.

A new built orangery linking the main house with the annexe wing to form a rear entrance hall and boot room. The 1000sq ft room has a lead roof, underfloor heating, basement and glazed screen with French windows opening onto the garden. We have carried four further projects for Woolley over the years including the full renovation of the dowager gate house, the Stables Cottage and Manor Farm along with repairs and maintenance to the main house.

A beautiful Gloucestershire manor farm that had not been renovated for over 50 years. The roofs were re-felted, battened and stone tiled. We converted the attic into three bedrooms and two bathrooms with a new elm staircase built on site, re-plumbed, wired and redecorated the whole house. The ground floor was re-configured with a new kitchen, boot and utility rooms. The old barns were converted into a farm office, kitchen and playroom.

Maunsel House is the 13th century home of Sir Benjamin Slade and is now a venue for weddings and corporate events. We were asked to build a commercial kitchen extension that would blend seamlessly with the existing house. We sourced stone from the original disused quarry , built the walls nearly a meter thick and found stone masons to carve new mullioned windows indistinguishable from the existing. As you push open the heavy studded oak doors and walk in under the fish scale tiled roof topped with a weather vane on a lead and copper cupola it is impossible to see where new meets old. A proud monument to our stonemasons’ affinity with their materials and the quality of our work.

Originally built by William Palling in 1665 and later modified in the 1700s by his heirs, Brownshill Court near Painswick was close to ruin. West Country Renovations stepped in to restore this 17th century palladian grade 2* gem meticulously, using matching stone and materials to preserve all the original architectural details. The architecture has been attributed to Anthony Keck – a great admirer of Robert Adam – with other impressive houses to his name including Highgrove in Tetbury and the Lammas in Minchinhampton. The planning and design for this renovation was done by Richard Parr (architect). In the early 20th century the house had been converted into five separate flats but has now been converted back into a magnificent single stately home complete with a cutting edge mechanical and electrical installation, ensuite bathrooms, lift and magnificent modern kitchen, all without compromising the original fabric of the building.

This house and it’s adjacent house (Owned by the Moroccan Embassy) were built around 1720. No 9 Little College St was two houses then, one of which included the current No10. After major works in the 18880’s and again in the 1920’s the Church Commissioners converted it into offices, along with fire partition walls, cheap pine floor boards and all the other design features you would expect from cheap 1960’s offices. Our brief was to recreate the house as close what it would have looked like in the 1720’s, given that they didn’t have ground floor kitchens or any bathrooms, but functioning like a new build with three reception rooms, seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, two kitchens and an up to date spec for plumbing, electrics and aircon.‍

This project was the total renovation and re-fit of this historic Chelsea dance studio into the beautiful flat that it is today. Great attention was paid to every detail and although the flat is spacious (1,860 sq ft), space was used to its maximum potential. The entrance door and all internal walls were relocated to improve the internal layout, and sliding doors were used in both bathrooms. The specifications included installing air conditioning, rewiring, two bathrooms and a new kitchen. Described as ‘meticulously finished’ by John D Wood.

This Kensington first floor flat is the third property we have worked on for the same clients. The flat was stripped out and refurbished, re-fitted and re-wired, including new bathrooms and kitchen. The work included book matched veneer joinery, specialist wallpapering, polished marble plaster and Chinese glass mosaic tiling.

Built on the grounds of a listed convent in London, this was a highly complex new build. The central spine of the house is the listed kitchen garden wall with the house designed to look like greenhouses on one side and timber sheds on the other, whilst achieving passive house levels of insulation and energy generation.

The conversion of a former care home and ancillary buildings into five terraced and fully detached properties. Completed on time and in budget for the developers.

Redecoration of the whole house, a new kitchen and raising the first-floor ceilings

This Arts and Crafts house had been poorly modernised in the 1980s. As part of a complete renovation to the highest specification we added a modern steel and glass extension creating a lower ground floor with bedrooms, cinema and utility; a large light kitchen/living room fully opening onto balconies overlooking the harbour on the ground floor and a first-floor roof terrace. The gardens were re-landscaped and a beautiful modern family home created.

The architect was asked to maximise the light and space in this 1970’s new build. His solution was to remove the face of the building over three floors where it faced the sea and cantilever the first and second floors out over the ground floor. This way the ground floor external walls could be replaced with fully opening floor to ceiling glass doors, merging the open plan inside space with the garden. In addition to these works we built extensions on both sides of the house and renovated the remainder creating a beautiful family house worthy of it’s location.

Originally built in 1890 with stone quarried in North Wales and transported on the new railway line, Holmedown was in a desperate state. One of the first generation of houses to be built with cavity walls, the wall ties were made from clay (like bricks) but had sheared through. The outer leaves were in the process of falling away from the inner leaves. Having stitched the whole building back together again with specialist ties we built a Victorian style orangery and gym extension along with a full renovation of the whole house. Complete with swimming pool, tennis court, saunas, walled kitchen gardens, converted coach houses, stables and landscaping the renovation took nearly three years. We have carried out three other renovation projects for these clients over the years.

This beautiful home in the Sussex countryside was created by building a large extension and re-arranging the internal layout of the house. The staircase was moved and widened to make it grander; a bedroom removed to bring light into the centre of the house and the other rooms reconfigured to create more contemporary living spaces with very individual en suite bathrooms. The project was carried out in two phases to enable the clients to continue living in the house throughout the works. A manor farmhouse built in 1820 which had extensions both sides in the 1930s. We demolished one wing and built a new 2000 sq ft extension to create a modern kitchen/living room with two bedrooms and two bathrooms above. In the second phase, we removed all the structural walls within the original 1820s building supporting the roof on a steel frame through to the basement, enabling the creation of a grand staircase and hallway off the original entrance. A relatively pokey, low ceilinged farmhouse became a 9000 sq. ft. fine country house.

We fully renovated a Devon long house to create a family home that blended traditional country cottage finishes with a bit of luxury. The total overhaul included creating an open-plan kitchen living area along with all new bathrooms and bedrooms. We created a dedicated yoga studio built a stunning 20-meter pool and landscaped the gardens.

An interesting new build having both a structural green oak frame and a fully structural Sips envelope. Designed by the architect to meet the client’s requirements for both a visible green oak frame internally and a passive house.

The house has a 5000 sq ft main house with a large basement and ground source heating, a 2000 sq ft farm office and self-contained flat, a walled kitchen garden, barns, and landscape gardens. It was designed to look like a stone-built Georgian farmhouse with a Victorian wing added at a later date.

This 6500sq ft new build in the middle of a private estate has a full-length cellar including gun room, game larder, utility, lower ground hall and boiler room. This required single pour Xypex because groundwater level is 2ft. below external ground level.
